Homeschool humor (and conference) contest

homeschool humor

Update Feb. 12, 2015: Congratulations to Deb, who submitted the winning comment: “You know you homeschool when family vacations mean an opportunity for school field trip hours.” ¬†ūüôā Thanks so much¬†to everyone who participated in this contest!

Who wouldn’t want¬†a little homeschool humor during their week? Even better, by sharing your amazing wit and wisdom¬†with us, you’ll have the chance to win a $20 gift voucher to our upcoming homeschool conference!

It’s simple. We’ve all had those moments where¬†we know we’re homeschooling when:

  • Your china cabinet is stuffed … not with china, but with homeschool curriculum!
  • Your children think getting on a school-bus is weird.
  • Your family no longer does housework, but is taking a multidisciplinary¬†Home Economics degree,¬†complete with certification!
  • What else?

Leave a comment on this blog post before end of day Friday, Feb. 6, telling us you knew you were homeschooling WHEN [fill in the blank].

Each comment will count as an entry toward our upcoming conference contest, where the grand prize is a $20 gift voucher to spend at our conference in April. You can spend this voucher at any of our 180+ exhibitor booths, including homeschool curriculum!

We’ll review all the entries and let you know who won our contest in early February.

A few disclaimers

  • Decisions of the MPE contest review board are final on all matters.
  • By participating, entrants agree to be bound by the official rules and decisions of MPE.
  • Keep your entries fun and family friendly, please. ūüėÄ

Thanks so much. We’re looking forward to seeing your submissions!

You know you’re homeschooling when you buy a house with a wet bar and are SO EXCITED, not because you drink — you don’t — but because it’s your new ART and SCIENCE LAB!

You know you are a homeschooling family when your children ask to listen to a book on tape and ask if it will count as school!

You know you’re a homeschooler when you take “sun”days off, while semi-laughing at others excitement for “snow”days.

You know you homeschool when…you find an in – tact dead wasp while cleaning your church and immediately know you are going to have to face your fear of flying insects and pick the thing up so it can be thoroughly inspected by little eyes.

You know you are a homeschooler when you plan little field trips around grandma and grandpa’s house and along the 19 hour route to and from!

You know you are homeschooling when every question asked becomes the next lesson; and when that lesson is given, you get interest and engagement instead eye-rolling and boredom.

You also know you are homeschooling when your children are the tallest ones at the Jazzercise child watch and everyone asks if school is out today.

You know you are a homeschooler when the Flash helps you explain science, and you just KNOW that would never have happened in a public school, and that your child would not be so excited by it. And that you can continue the lesson while making dinner. (Sorry, but we had an AWESOME science lesson.)

You know you’re a homeschooler when you move some family pictures to a different location because the wall they were on is the only wall big enough for the 5 1/2 ft. world map you just bought…

You know you’re a homeschooler when you spend hours dreaming up, researching and sketching a closet/shelving system that would hide/store the guest bed between visits and hide the homeschool supplies when guests are in town, in an attempt to maximize every square foot of your home.

You know you’re a homeschooler when you see a bunch of other homeschoolers at the zoo/parks during public school days when the weather is nice.
