Workshops

Information Technology 101: Understanding Your Child's Internet World (Friday 9:15am Room AB)

For: Parents of children all ages

Description: A practical seminar that teaches parents how to monitor the technological media influences so prevalent in our culture. The technology that is available to children today is astounding; our kids are daily facing pressures and temptation at the push of a button—in a way our generation never had to. The truth is that even though our children spend most of their time with us, these influences are going to bombard them. Information Technology 101 is a crash-course on how to set safeguards on the activities kids are exposed to on the internet. This workshop focuses on many different areas of interest for young people on the internet: surfing the web, MySpace and other social networking sites, web cams, chat rooms, video games and more. Join the Generations of Virtue team as they help you navigate this maze of technology.

Setting a Paradigm for Purity (Friday 2:30pm Ambassador Room)

For: Parents of Preschool through Middle School

Description: A Biblical, age-appropriate approach to sex education for homeschoolers. In this workshop parents of elementary and middle school children will learn what to talk about with their kids at every stage of development. This workshop includes information on how to set the paradigm for purity and courtship beginning in preschool. We will also discuss media discernment, how to give “the talk,” and how parents can begin now to open up the lines of communication with their children to pave the way for honesty and openness during adolescence.

The Pathway of Purity that Leads to Purpose (Friday, 6pm Room AB)

For: Teens and their Parents (especially for teens!)

Description: Using the 5 senses of seeing, feeling, tasting, hearing, and smelling, Julie Hiramine will not be your science instructor, but edifying you about staying pure. There is a flood of inappropriate imagery and explicit content that besieges us everywhere we turn. Come and receive practical guidance on how to meet the many challenges that surround you in the areas of dating versus courtship, media discernment, and developing a deeper relationship with the Lord. God’s call on this generation is to step up into His higher standard and seek His face in the midst of all that might want to pull us off course. Join us as we together plot a course through the maze that the world is lost in.

The Popularity Myth: Equip Your Daughter to Embrace True Friendship (Saturday 10:45am Room AB)

For: Parents of Girls

Description: Is your daughter the “odd girl out” or the “leader of the pack”? The rise and fall of the hierarchies of our daughters, and their siblings and friends, is like the rise and fall of kingdoms and world powers. How do we as parents deal with the cliques and their fall out? What is a Godly pattern for our girls and how should they structure their relationships? How do the lies of our culture perpetuate the need for our daughters to bolster their self image and define themselves through the eyes of their peers? Come and hear about God’s design for our daughters and their relationships. Step off the treadmill of our culture’s say so and into the Spirit of God as the architect of relationships--even those of girls.
