bulletJohnson County, KS, Election Office - urgent need for workers!

"I received this today. I have very much enjoyed being an election worker for some years now.

The election office is asking us election workers to help them recruit for the August and November elections. They can take kids as young as 16, even though they are too young to vote yet. They will be able to help a lot!

Of course, they can also take adults of any age. Some companies even allow their employees to take the day off with pay, in order to work the election.

It's a wonderful learning experience and valuable to have good people helping, so the vote be carried out properly. The message below, from the election office contains the website (which has lots of interesting reading) and contact info for the election office.

Please call me if you have any questions: Mary Jane Ward 913.764.3047"

Subject: JoCo Election Office - Urgent Message!

Dear Colleagues,

This year is destined to be perhaps the most exciting election year in our lifetime.

You will be participating in 'history in the making' and we ask you to share this experience with the people you know best.

We need your assistance in the recruitment of an additional 500 election workers for the August 5th and November 4th Elections. Some of you have already given us names…THANK YOU…but, we need more!

Please ask family members, neighbors, friends…people you would like to work with and maybe spend the day with…who would want to be a part of this time in our nation's history.

Email or call us with their name and address and/or phone number. We will send them an Election Worker Packet.

Time is of the essence…Assignments will be sent out in June for the August 5th Election.

Thank you,

City Union Mission Community Service

City Union Mission is an evangelical Christian ministry committed to sharing the gospel and meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of men, women, and children who are poor and homeless. It is the largest rescue mission, not just in Kansas City, but in a 6 state region.

How homeschoolers can get involved:

- Come take a tour of the Mission — watch their video and see one or all of our facilities (Men's Center, Family Center, Vanderbury Youth Program, New Life Center).

- Have a speaker come talk to your group of students about the Mission, homelessness, drug and alcohol awareness, or a variety of other topics.

- Participate in one of their drives — they have drives going on throughout the year to collect much needed items like over-the-counter medicine, disposable paper products, items for our summer camp, or hygiene items.

- Volunteer as a family or small group — housekeeping projects, baking cookies for special events, making Welcome Bags filled with hygiene items for overnight guests, or organizing books in our youth library, to name a few opportunities.

In 2003, they served over 280,000 meals and provided over 124,000 beds.

For volunteer inquiries, contact Pat Brodnax at 816-474-9380, ext. 1487 or email patb@cumission.org.
