Midland Monarchs High School Baseball team
The Midland Monarchs, an Approved High-School Baseball team through the
Kansas State High School Activities Association, is looking to partner with
home school families and their student athletes. Each year, we have a
handful of home school student athletes participating in our program. The purpose of the Monarch baseball program
is to develop young Christian men of character through the game of baseball.
We believe that baseball contains fundamental principles, which provide
tools for success in life. Our program will focus on teaching these baseball
and life fundamentals. We will reach young men for God's Kingdom that could
not be reached through other avenues (academics, arts, music, etc.)
Fall League September / October 2010 Tournament Schedules
Winter League November thru January 2010/2011
Practices Sunday, Monday, & Wednesdays Shawnee, KS
Program Outline:
Fall Baseball: As a coaching staff, we utilize the fall schedule to
breakdown our defensive sets and strategies; and emphasize positional
fundamental development, including pitching and catching. The fall schedule
will be made up of 5 or 6 weekend tournaments, with 1-2 practices per week.
The guys will continue to develop their relationships and enjoy fellowship
with each other.
Winter Baseball: During the winter league, it's all about
pitching/catching/hitting. We play one night a week, Sunday evenings for
12-weeks during the winter. The focus is developing our pitching staff,
teaching the boys how to pitch, working on communication between catcher and
pitcher, signs, game situations, etc. Hitting - we spend the entire sessions
working on getting quality at bats, repetition in the batting cage and
fundamental hitting approaches. We really break down pitching, hitting, and
catching during the winter league.
If you are interested in having your son try-out for the Midland Monarchs
- please contact Coach Shannan Nelson at 913.523.3364 or email him at

Burr Oak City Library
"The Burr Oak City Library is a tiny public library in north central
Kansas, run entirely by caring volunteers. Although we may be small, we have
a great heart for homeschoolers and those who feel called to enrich their
children’s lives through quality literature and educational resources.
Our library has been blessed by several recent grant awards, which have
enabled us to purchase homeschool resources for our local patrons. We would
like to offer them for checkout to ALL library users across the state
through the Inter Library Loan (ILL) program.
Attached are two lists of items recently acquired as resources for
homeschoolers. The
“Literature List” consists of Readers and Read-Alouds (family reading
participation) from Sonlight Curriculum®. These booklists are not unique to
Sonlight but are classics used in many other popular homeschool curricula,
including: Learning Language Arts Through Literature®, All Through the
Ages®, Ambleside Online®, K-12®, Learning Adventures®, and Bob Jones®. We
hope to add more of the higher-level readers this year.
Our “DVD/VHS
List” includes many titles that you will not find in most public
libraries. The science sets were chosen specifically to counteract popular
evolutionary hypotheses with Creationist theory.
We are aware that the public library is a vital resource to homeschool
families, whose resources are already strained after paying taxes towards
the public library AND purchasing their own curriculum. WE WANT TO HELP!
WHERE……..is Burr Oak??
Never heard of Burr Oak? Imagine that! Burr Oak is in Jewell County,
Kansas – 5 miles north of US Hwy. 36 on KS-28. The library is located in the
historic old limestone schoolhouse at 776 Kansas in Burr Oak. Hours are 2-5
p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (September through May) and 9 a.m.-12
noon Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (June through August). We’re open Tuesday
evenings from 7:00-9:00 year round.
If you are unable to visit our library, you may request any of the listed
items through ILL at your own public library. Have your librarian contact
Becky at 785-647-7541 or
mcnichols@uscenter.net with your requests. They will be shipped by
library rate mail within three business days (unless currently checked out).
Checkout time of ILL materials is 4 weeks with the following limits:
5 books and/or 3 videos/CDs/DVDs per family per time
Please treat items carefully so they may have a long life and be enjoyed
by many users.
We’re sorry, but we can’t fulfill long-distance requests by individuals;
they must be processed through your local library."

Heartland Christian Academy
Heartland Christian Academy (HCA), one of the pioneer homeschool programs
in the Kansas City area, has NOT moved to Olathe, but will be staying at
their present location of 8301 Lamar and is becoming a ministry of Vineyard
Church of Overland Park. Come see why people as far away as Topeka, Peculiar
and Spring Hill have participated in this excellent weekly program.
Your child’s class will learn history chronologically through hands-on
projects and festivals as well as get their hearts pumping through games and
start-up activities in PE. Reader’s theater will bring stories to life while
teaching confidence presenting what’s been practiced. Science will also be
taught in a memorable way—without you having to come up with all of the
ingredients. Even as valuable as the academics, recess and class parties
provide opportunities to connect, making friendships that carry on past the
classroom.
Enrollment for new families began March 2. Please contact Molly Fisher at
(913) 381-5577 ext 122 to set up a visit or for an enrollment handbook so
you, too, can join this incredible community of homeschoolers. This one-day
weekly program may be offered on two separate days depending on the
enrollment.
