Miller Pads and Paper Spring-Summer 2008 Art Contest

Theme: “Nature – God’s Canvas”

Medium: Colored Pencils Size: Up to and including 11x14”

Age Groups: 1) Age 5 and under, Age 6 to 9, Age 10 to 12, & Age 13 to 18.

Contest dates: May 1st through August 1st, 2008

Contest Rules ***Please follow the contest rules exactly to avoid disqualification.

1) One entry per child or student. The art contest is open to students in all 50 states and Canada.

2) Originality is important. If we receive 10 of a similar drawing, it takes away from their work.

3) Colored Pencils are the medium, you may sketch in pencil first.

4) Each painting must have the artists Name, Address, Email Address and Phone Number on the back of the picture. This information will be used for returning art work, if you wish it returned, and contacting the winners.

5) If you would like your art work returned to you, please send a check or money order in the amount it cost you to ship the picture to us. If you don’t want your art work returned, you don’t need to send any funds, and we will use them to decorate Miller’s Art and Educational Supply Store! Please note that we will do our best to protect your art work, but can’t be held responsible for lost or damaged art work due to negligence of the Postal Service.

6) Your art work will be judged by a panel of artists and art experts.

7) All art work must be received by midnight August 1st , 2008. (No exceptions)

8) We will judge the art work on August 4th. Winners will be posted on our website by August 8th , 2008.

9) First, Second and Third prizes will be awarded for each age group.

10) First Prize winners will receive a $25.00 Gift certificate and a specially selected Art Kit. Second and Third Prize winners will receive a specially selected Art Kit.

11) Gift Certificates may be used on any catalog, website or store item(s) that are in stock from Miller Pads and Paper. Please observe expiration dates.

bulletThe 2008 Ballantyne Essay Contest

This year, Vision Forum is pleased to announce the 2008 Ballantyne Essay Contest. The topic this year is: “What twenty-first century boys and girls can learn about duty, honor, and courage from the writings of R.M. Ballantyne.”

Contestants are encouraged to demonstrate that they have carefully read at least three of Ballantyne’s works by building their case from at least this many books. The contest is open to any young man or lady eighteen years of age and under. The essay is not to exceed fifteen hundred words. It should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted with an accompanying biographical sketch including a photograph of the essay’s author, age, email, and phone number. Submit your essays to:

Submissions must be received no later than June 30th. Three winners will be selected from the entries. The Grand Prize winner will receive $500 cash! The other winners will receive prizes of Vision Forum Gift Certificates valued at $250 and $100 each. Each winning essay will be posted online at the new Ballantyne the Brave website along with a picture of the author. All essays become the property of Vision Forum. The winner will be announced by August 1, 2008.

HomeworkKansas

HomeworkKansas is a one-to-one tutoring service for every Kansas student. The tutoring is live and the tutors are teachers, college faculty, professional tutors, graduate students and subject specialists. All tutors have been carefully screened. Tutoring sessions take place online. Students initiate a tutoring session via a computer with Internet access. Students may access a tutoring session at their local public library or a computer at home. Tutors are available seven days a week, from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Tutoring in Spanish is available Sunday through Thursday, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. Tutoring sessions average 20 minutes in length. The service is free. There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions a student may initiate. For more information, go to www.tutor.com.
