"State of the Union" (Part 2 - End)

Economy

Moving on in our evaluation of America’s state, we come to our state economically. Money is another subject that has become so important in our society, whether it should be or not. However, we must deal with it, and for our nation this means utilizing the things God has given us to succeed and prosper, without it becoming the top priority.

We must ask God to help us in our economy, and follow His rules about free trading and marketing. Only then will we have true prosperity through our economy.

We should open new markets and encourage entrepreneurship in this free market society, without unneeded government involvement. We must keep this nation capitalistic as it was founded, not moving it towards socialism (which is exactly what is currently happening).

We are also bound by God not to trade with and thereby encourage nations that oppress and take advantage of its people. We have the duty to help the people regain the freedom they are given by God, instead of allowing evil to take its form and spread over other nations.

War on terrorism

One speck of evil in its premature stages grows to become a deadly threat. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

It is for this reason that we come to one of the most important issues in our country: the current War on Terrorism. For the reasons I just stated: this is why we are involved in this war. War is painful, war is treacherous, but in this case it is also just as much necessary.

We must teach all nations that are opposed to freedom that our cause is just – and our cause is true – and we will fight for it – or even die for it. Our fathers who built this country saw it as important enough to die for, and we carry that on.

The liberty that our country was founded on comes not from the Founding Father’s own minds, but it is much bigger than any person or cause. It is the liberty that comes from Christianity. This is where our freedoms come from, and this is why we must stand and protect these liberties.

Conclusion

Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States, said “Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet anchor of your liberties…”

The only way we can preserve our freedoms is to hold fast to the Bible. This means we must move and change in all ways: politically, economically, religiously, etc. in a direction toward God, who can illuminate our understanding in every area.

Without looking to God for help in our nation, we are simply searching in the dark.

This is exactly what Benjamin Franklin said, “In this situation…groping as it were in the dark to find political truth… how has it happened…that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understanding? … And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance?”

That is the sad state of our nation today: we have forgotten “that powerful Friend” and have imagined we no longer need His help. This can be changed, but only through the changing of lives and political institutions and many other things in our country. Let’s pray that this will indeed take place.

I will conclude by leaving the Holy Words of God Himself from Psalm 33:12 and Proverbs 14:34, for I believe our nation should dwell on these words:

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD… Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”

May God bless America.

Thank you.
