"State of the Union" (Part 1)

Every year the President of the United States addresses the American people about the status of the country. This is known as the "State of the Union Address". Today I am going to address the TRUE state of our union.

People of the United States of America: this speech is meant to inform the American People of the status that our nation is currently in. I believe to come to this we must first deal with how our union is in a state with God Almighty.

Benjamin Franklin once said at the dawn of this nation: "…God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?"

God is most definitely aware of our country, and with that knowledge we must discern if our nation is aware of God. Not only must we acknowledge God's sovereignty as a nation, but we must also acknowledge His laws.

Law and Truth

For too long we have disregarded all morality and truth that comes from God. Instead, we live after our own wants and needs, unashamed to be, as Jonathan Edwards puts it, 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God'.

To acknowledge God and His laws, which would reach this nation into a better state in our relationship with our Creator, things must change drastically. Right now we are like Sodom and Gomorrah - on the brink of God's wrath. To turn the tides in our state is to turn the tides of our entire mindsets and worldviews as Americans.

We must no longer uphold tolerance as the highest value - but truth. Tolerance is indeed important, but not at the expense of tolerating Satan and His death-ridden arrows that so unfortunately infiltrate our society. These arrows I am talking about - these are things that we are called to tolerate - they, like a disease, creep into our great nation's internal organs and kill slowly, surely, and secretly.

Homosexuality and abortion

Homosexuality has become a norm. What is wrong and depraved is now accepted and praised. Just recently our nation has seen the effects that this poison arrow has resulted: just a few months ago Americans witnessed the first lesbian - marriage on national television.

Our country has done what is cursed by God in the Bible in Isaiah 5:20: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil…"

Another way to improve this country's state is upholding a much higher standard for human life. All mankind is made in the image of an all-powerful God, and because of this life must be protected - whether it is still in its mother's body or if it has lived many years.

For much too long abortion has become an accepted means for solving the "problem" of unwanted pregnancy. This disregard for the miracle of human life must stop - before God makes it stop by His force.

Education

When our nation once again adopts God's law to every area, we will realize that there is a reason our educational system has plummeted in both education and learning. Our nation has overstepped all the jurisdictional patterns that God has instituted. The civil government overtakes what should belong under the church's authority, with the church not even being awake enough to realize it.

The purpose of government, which comes from Romans 13, is to keep order by punishing the wrongdoer and protecting the citizens. This purpose is overstepped, however, when the government takes over the education of the next generation of Americans. This authority is given to the Church government and the Family government, not the civil government.

Once this is changed, we can see a great revolution in our schools - a revolution of actual knowledge. George Washington said in 1789, "The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained." But our nation holds on to the exact opposite - that God is happy with our state, because, after all, America is basically a good nation.
